Nicki Minaj's husband, Kenneth Petty, under probation and home detention for not registering as a sex offender
Nicki Minaj's husband, Kenneth Petty, will serve a sentence for not registering as a sex offender in California, much to the dismay of the federal government. He will spend this time at the villa where he and Nicki live.
The 44-year-old was sentenced by a federal judge on Wednesday to a year at home, three years probation and a $55,000 fine. In September 2021, Petty pleaded guilty.
Prosecutors for the US Attorney's Office reportedly claimed that house arrest would not constitute punishment because Nicki and Kenneth live in a lavish multi-bedroom mansion in a gated community in Calabasas.
They had suggested that Petty receive a harsh sentence of 15 months in prison and 5 years probation, but the judge opposed that recommendation.
Petty spent more than 4 years in prison after being found guilty of rape in New York City in 1994. When he moved to California with Nicki, he failed to register himself on the sex offender list, which is why federal authorities caught him.
A detailed March Daily Beast report sheds light on an attack case dating back to 1994. An alleged sexual assault victim named Jennifer Hough describes in the report how Nicki Minaj, Minaj's husband Kenneth Petty, and estranged family members are said to have destroyed her life.
In particular, the report describes the allegations from 1994 and the side effects she experienced after coming forward and disclosing her version of the event. Due to harassment, intimidation, and other factors, she chose a life of secrecy and privacy.
