Nigeria troops kill 39 terrorists, arrest 159 in Yobe, Borno

39 terrorists were killed in an ambush by Nigerian military personnel working with Operation Hadin Kai, while 159 other members of the group were captured.

Additionally, 109 hostages were reportedly freed by the troops from various locations.

At a press conference on Thursday at Defence Headquarters in Abuja, Maj.-Gen. Edward Buba, the Director of Defence Media Operations, revealed this information to the media. He assured that the men of the Nigerian Armed Forces will continue to deny saboteurs the opportunity to destabilise the nation.

According to Buba, the military operation's air component degraded terrorists at Sububu Forest in Kankara Local Government Area of Katsina State and conducted an interdiction of terrorists there.

After the ambush, he said that Operation Hadin Kai forces working in the country's North East also detained prominent members of Boko Haram and ISWAP in the Local Government Areas of Gwoza and Tarmuwa in the states of Borno and Yobe, respectively.

He said that the offensive resulted in the elimination of several terrorists, their surrender in the Borno region's Gwoza, the release of hostages, and the seizure of weapons and ammunition.

In another operation, he said, troops neutralised 11 terrorists, detained 45 others, freed 34 hostages, and found a sizable cache of weapons and ammunition.

According to the defence spokesman, troops found six AK47 weapons, a HK21, a GPMG, a fake gun, 11 AK47 magazines, and 34 rounds of special 7.62mm ammunition.

In addition, they found seven empty 7.62mm special cartridge cases, one bandolier, five motorcycles, eight mobile phones, and a N368, 950.

According to Buba, the air component of the operations located and attacked the terrorists' hideouts in Wulde in Borno, and the results were being watched.

He claimed that during the time, Operation Safe Haven forces in the North Central region neutralised two gunmen, freed three hostages, and detained 15 criminal suspects.
