Nigeria troops rescue 360 abducted victims from terrorist den in Borno
360 kidnappees were freed from a heavily defended Jama'atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda'awati wal-Jihad (JAS) enclave in the Mandara Mountains region of southern Borno State by troops of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK).
According to the military, it was one of the biggest hostage rescue operations in the North-East theater in recent memory.
Lieutenant Colonel Haruna M. Sani, the Acting Media Information Officer for Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI, made the announcement in a statement.
He claimed that the operation, which was the result of weeks of intelligence gathering, clandestine reconnaissance, and operational planning, led to the safe return of men, women, and children who had been kidnapped from various communities, especially those in the Ngoshe axis, and held in harsh captivity.
"The successful rescue underscores the growing operational reach, intelligence dominance, and tactical superiority of OPHK in denying terrorists freedom of action and protecting vulnerable populations across the theatre,” the statement said.
