Nigerian student Chancellor Ahaghotu breaks record for longest painting marathon
Chancellor Ahaghotu, a Nigerian student living in the United States, has broken the record for the longest painting marathon (a Guinness World Record, GWR).
After a 100-hour painting marathon, Ahaghotu, a Nigerian student at the Savannah College of Art and Design in Atlanta, Georgia, US, shattered the record that had stood for ten years.
In a post on its official X handle on Wednesday, GWR announced this and stated that she had painted 106 pieces featuring a variety of subjects, such as celebrities, plants, and animals.
“After painting for 100 consecutive hours, Chancellor Ahaghotu, a Nigerian art student has broken a decade old record for the longest painting marathonâ€, the GWR said.
With this accomplishment, Ahaghotu has surpassed the previous record of sixty hours from 2013, which was set by Belgian painter Roland Palmerts.
Ahaghotu said of his recent accomplishments, "My different mood and feeling" is represented in the painting.
“There was joy and celebration when I completed the 100 hours. It was a new experience for me and I am glad that I completed it.â€
“I came to the United States to pursue my dreams and build up my career as a recognized artist. Breaking the record will boost my recognition as an artist both in my school and the world at large.â€
“One thing I love about the paintings I created is that they were representing my different moods and how I was feeling when I created them,†he added.
