Nigerian student loses life in Scotland road accident
A car accident claimed the life of 33-year-old Chinenye Okonkwo, a Nigerian student at Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU) in Scotland.
Okonkwo, a master's candidate at the university, was reportedly strolling on St. Vincent Street in Glasgow's central business district on February 2 when she was struck by two vehicles and knocked to the ground.
The girl was seriously hurt in the incident, and she passed tragically there.
According to reports, police officers detained a driver in connection with the event.
The university's vice-chancellor, Steve Decent, stated in a statement on Wednesday that Okonkwo had been accepted into the public health program in January 2022.
The vice chancellor extended his sympathies to the student's family and called the student's death "a devastating shock" to the university community.
“This is a terrible shock for our community, especially those who knew Chinenye. Our Student Wellbeing Team is available to provide support to those who need it and can be contacted at studentwellbeing@gcu.ac.uk or by visiting our Student Wellbeing Centre,†the statement reads.
“It is with great sadness that we heard of the passing of Chinenye Okonkwo in a tragic road traffic accident. We offer our sincere condolences to Chinenye’s family and friends and our thoughts are with them at this very difficult time.â€
