NIMC to license more agents for NIN enrollment
More agents will be licenced around the nation to enlist in National Identification Numbers (NINs), according to proposals made public by the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC).
The Commission invited organisations, including Limited Liability Companies (LLCs), startup businesses, Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) with demonstrated success in similar roles, to indicate their interest in providing data collection and issuing the NIN in a notice released on Monday.
According to the Commission, interest might also be expressed by Nigerian representatives of its development partners.
The decision to license new agents might be related to the ongoing revalidation process for current agents started by Abisoye Coker-Odusote, the recently appointed Director General/Chief Executive Officer.
Additionally, there are worries that there are numerous bogus NIN enrollment centres popping up across the nation at the same time.
The Commission states that there are three separate licence types with various eligibility conditions. It was mentioned that the first category is made up of LLCs, which are businesses that have been incorporated for more than two years and are able to function at the federal, state, municipal, and regional levels of government.
The third category consists of CSOs and NGOs that are incorporated Trustees focused on particular groups with special needs and can operate within catchments and areas of their interest in the nation. The second category consists of SMEs, and startups comprise registered business names that operate as SMEs and can operate at regional, state, and local government levels.
The NIMC head office in Abuja will receive all applications physically, however, the Commission stated that the expression of interest period will conclude on November 14, 2023.
