Nine people killed during Lunar Year celebration in Carlifornia
According to local police authorities, nine people have been killed in a mass shooting in a southern California city with a significant Asian population.
“Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide detectives are responding to assist Monterey Park Police Department with a shooting death investigation. There are nine deceased,†a statement said.
Asians make up a sizable portion of the population in Monterey Park, which is located about eight miles (13 kilometers) east of downtown Los Angeles.
According to reports, the incident occurred at a dance club one hour after the Lunar New Year festivities.
According to local resident Wong Wei, his friend had been inside the dance club and was in the restroom when the shooting started.
When she came out, she discovered a shooter and three bodies: two women and the man who claimed to be the club's manager.
