In the Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State, a portion of the Nibo–Isiagu Road was flooded, leaving a schoolchild missing. The police are searching for the kid.

After significant rains in several areas of the state on Monday and Tuesday, nine people—seven youngsters and two adults—were rescued from the flooded highway.

The victims were caught in the water while going along the route early on Tuesday morning.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Tochukwu Ikenga, the spokesperson for the Anambra State Police Command, revealed that the rescue effort was executed by the command's Safe School Operatives in cooperation with members of the impacted community.

He claims that after learning about the situation, the operatives quickly mobilised to the area and were able to transport two adults and seven pupils to safety.

However, Ikenga stated that as of Tuesday, one additional youngster engaged in the incident was still missing, which led the command to initiate ongoing search and rescue efforts.

He stated that the search would go on until the missing youngster was located and that it was being carried out in cooperation with community members and pertinent stakeholders.
