NSCDC arrest 32 over alleged destruction and looting in Kano
Thirty-two people have been arrested by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Kano State Command for looting and breaking during the demonstration against the state's poor governance and hunger.
This was revealed in a statement released on Thursday by SC Ibrahim Idris Abdullahi, the NSCDC's spokeswoman.
According to Abdullahi, the arrests were carried out by employees of the NSCDC's Fagge Divisional Office in Sabon Gari, Bata, France Road, and Murtala Mohammed Way.
He claimed that thousands of Naira's worth of stolen goods, which the authorities have already recovered, were discovered with the accused.
The statement added that various things purportedly taken by thugs during the protest at the intersection of State and Iyaka Roads in the Gyadi Gyadi neighbourhood of Kano were found by NSCDC agents working alongside good Samaritans. SC Abdullahi also stated that an inquiry into the situation has begun, and that once it is finished, legal action will be taken.
According to LEADERSHIP, thieves in Kano stormed into many establishments while posing as protestors and took food and other merchandise.
The Kano State Government imposed a 24-hour curfew in the state as a result of the demonstrators' serious property destruction and vandalism of both public and private property.
