NSCDC builds 500 housing units for officers
In Plateau State, the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps has started building 500 mass housing units for its officials and soldiers.
At a foundation-laying ceremony on Friday to kick off building of the housing project located on a 30-hectare plot of land in the Du village of the state's Jos South Local Government Area, Commandant General of the NSCDC Dr. Ahmed Audi revealed this information.
According to Audi, the housing project complies with federal policy, which strives to lessen housing shortages, particularly for public employees.
According to him, “This project is a product of the Federal Government’s policy of reducing housing deficits in the country, especially among public servants.
“It has been the desire of the Commandant General of the NSCDC to improve on the welfare of its officers and men across the country. He will continue to pursue and harness any opportunity that will improve on the living condition of the officers not only in the area of housing but in other areas as well.
“The importance of this project is not only limited to the lives of NSCDC officers and men today but even to their lives after retirement as well as their children and generations unborn.’’
“As the project is going on, we will make sure that all the terms and conditions of the contract and Memorandum of Understanding are strictly adhered to until the project is completed,” the CG who was represented by the Assistant Command General, Suleiman Mafara stated.
At the project's foundation-laying event, Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang praised the NSCDC for choosing Plateau as the location for the mass housing units.
He pointed out that the project's first-of-its-kind location in the Plateau would be advantageous to all parties since it would support the state's development initiatives and lessen security issues, particularly in the host community.
