NYSC demobilises 54 fake UNICAL graduates

In order to avoid awarding Certificates of National Service to those who are not eligible, the Management of the National Youth Service Corps claims to have demobilised 54 University of Calabar graduates who were illegally mobilised.

This was said in a statement on Friday night that was signed by Eddy Megwa, the Scheme's director of information and public relations.

This was revealed in Abuja on Friday by Brigadier-General Yusha'u Ahmed, the Director General of the NYSC, who also said that the unauthorised graduates would face appropriate legal action.

Of the 54, he claimed that 19 of them who had initially registered online for mobilisation had been barred from serving, and four (4) of the other offenders' Certificates of National Service were not generated by the Scheme.

Recall that the NYSC earlier on Monday revoked the certificates of 101 UNICAL graduates who were enrolled in the program unlawfully and were expected to graduate between 2021 and 2023.

The Pro-Chancellor of the University, DIG Udom Ekpoudom (retd.), praised the Scheme for revealing fake graduates who had been fraudulently mobilised after the certificates were declared invalid.

He also promised to take action against the staff members who had been involved in the mobilisation of these fake graduates from the university.

The NYSC DG said that an illegal mobilisation of a bread vendor had occurred from the University, and praised Professor Florence Obi, the Vice-Chancellor, for alerting the NYSC to the illegal mobilisations.
