Obasanjo meets Peter Obi, Labour party presidential candidate, Wike, and others in London

Olusegun Obasanjo, a former president, met with Nyesom Wike, the governor of Rivers State, and Peter Obi, the Labour Party's presidential candidate, on Thursday in London.

The PUNCH learned that the meeting was a part of discussions leading up to the 2023 presidential election, despite the fact that specifics were still hazy at the time this article was filed.

Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Samuel Ortom of Benue State, Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State, Donald Duke, the former governor of Cross River State, and other friends of Wike attended the meeting.

According to information obtained by our correspondent, Wike and Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party's nominee for president, would meet in London later today.

The PUNCH writes that there are growing concerns within the PDP before today's summit in London that the conflict between Atiku and Wike may hurt the party's chances in the 2023 presidential elections.

The party leaders expressed worry about the developing relationship between Wike and significant APC members in separate interviews with The PUNCH on Wednesday. They described the relationship as worrying.

Top party figures specifically voiced worry over the Monday meeting in London between Wike and Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the APC presidential candidate, and two other PDP governors.

The PDP's elders are concerned that Wike's actions as well as those of the governors of the states of Oyo and Benue, Seyi Makinde and Samuel Ortom, may hurt the party's chances of winning the 2023 presidential election.

The PUNCH learned that discussions among the PDP hierarchy on Wednesday were dominated by the Wike and Tinubu meeting on Tuesday in the UK.

At the party's Wadata Plaza headquarters in Wuse, Abuja, on Wednesday, the National Working Committee of the party met with PDP governorship candidates from all 36 states of the country.

Except for the governor of Oyo State, who is currently abroad, all of the PDP's governor candidates were present at the meeting.
