Ododo halts mining in Kogi
Due to an inflow of bandits and unfavourable aspects in the mining-related activities, the Kogi State Government banned all mining operations in the state on Wednesday.
The State Executive Council meeting, chaired by Governor Usman Ododo, made the decision to halt mining operations, according to State Commissioner for Solid Minerals and Natural Resources Bashiru Gegu.
In an interview with newsmen after the conference, Gegu stated the state Ministry of Solid Minerals and Natural Resources will start the profile of lawful mining businesses in the state.
He said, “This is to enable the state to have genuine mining data. A total clean-up of the sector will go a long way in minimising or eradicating criminalities in totality.
“The state will work by the rules of the games and will collaborate with the Federal Mines Officers and the security agencies.
“The state will not condone any form of infiltration or illegal activities.
“We implore all mining companies to bear with the state in these circumstances because we must curb insecurity.”
