Tuesday saw the adoption of a resolution by the Ogun State House of Assembly designating August 20 as Isese Cultural Day in the state.
The Assembly at the plenary presided over by the Speaker, Olakunle Oluomo immediately after their resumption from a two-week recess, passed the resolution, titled “H.R. No.008/OG/2023-Observtation of Isese Day as Work-Free Day in Ogun Stateâ€.
The Assembly demanded that the 20th of August be observed annually as Isese-Cultural Day and that the state should designate it as a day off from work.
The motion was proposed by the Majority Leader, Yusuf Sheriff, and seconded by the Minority Leader, Lukmon Adeleye.
During the debate on the motion, the majority of the parliamentarians claimed that the resolution aimed to preserve the state's rich culture and history for future generations by promoting it.
They added that the resolution will significantly increase tourism and preserve the state's distinctive culture and traditions.
Speaker Oluomo praised his fellow MPs for their contributions that helped the resolution be passed in his answer.
He said the resolution “would give proper identity to the cultural values of the people, with a clarification that the declaration of the public holiday remained the exclusive of the Federal Government; thus the proposed work-free day.â€
Meanwhile, the Assembly also passed a resolution titled “H.R No. 007/OG/2023- Usage of Social Media Platform for Official Purposeâ€, directing that social media platforms being used for official purposes by the leadership and management of the House be guided by the provisions of the Standing Orders of the House and Legislative House (Power and Privileges) Act, 2018.
