Ogun man electrocuted while fixing electrical fault

While assisting a neighbour in repairing an electrical issue on Tuesday, a middle-aged electrician at Unity Estate in Aregbe, Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State, was electrocuted.

SP Omolola Odutola, the Ogun State Command's Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the incident and promised to release a statement shortly.

According to information obtained, Elijah of Unity Estate, Aregbe neighbourhood of Obantoko, Odeda local government area, Ogun State, hired an electrician to assist in fixing an electrical issue.

According to information obtained by our correspondent, there was a power outage when the electrician ascended the electrical pole, but power was restored while he was working on the job.

Residents fled in the ensuing panic, according to a community source, and the incident was reported to the Aregbe Police Station.

The source said, “He was an electrician who was engaged to help with repairs of electrical fault in Mr Elijah’s house. He has been the one assisting in fixing faults when IBEDC men were not around.

“There was no electricity before he started the connection. But while he was on it, power was restored. He was electrocuted. Those around initially fled, but later Mr Elijah went to Aregbe Police Station to report, before the Community Development Association members joined him.”
