Ogun police arrest bank official who fled with N1.97m
Esther Hamidu, a loan officer for a microfinance bank, was detained by the Ogun State Police Command after she allegedly fled with customer contributions totaling N1.97 million.
According to PUNCH Metro, Hamidu vanished with the daily deposits made by bank customers between March and December 2023.
Our correspondent learned that the contribution had not been remitted, and the branch manager of the bank in the state capital of Abeokuta reported the situation to the police.
Despite police efforts to have Hamidu arrested, it was said that she vanished into thin air after repeated unsuccessful attempts to get the suspect to pay the donation.
The culprit had been captured, according to a source in the state police command who did not want to be named in print.
Omolola Odutola, the state police public relations officer, on Saturday, said that the suspect was taken into custody in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, on Friday.
“Yes, she has been arrested. She has been transferred from Ibadan, where she was arrested, to Ogun State. She has confessed to the crime. She could not explain what she did with the money,†Odutola said.
