Ogun road crash kills nine passengers

Nine people died in a deadly car accident on the JBD/Ore route in Ijebu-Ode on Black Monday in Ogun State.

A white Toyota Hiace bus from Delta Line with registration number 14B-299DT and a white Sino truck commercial vehicle from Bill Gas Solution Ltd. with registration number AAB162XD were involved in the collision, which happened in the Bethel area at approximately 4:55 p.m.

Three men and six women were among the nine people who perished instantly in the collision.

When contacted, Afolabi Odunsi, the Federal Road Safety Corps' Ogun Sector Command Public Education Officer, confirmed the incident and determined that speeding was most likely the cause of the collision.

Odunsi revealed that the road pavement was wet and that it was raining when the collision occurred.

“The crash occurred while the weather was raining, with the road pavement wet. The road itself was paved. Preliminary investigation identified speed violation (SPV) as the probable cause of the crash.”

He reported that two minutes after receiving the distress call, at 4:58 p.m., rescue personnel reached the scene. The vehicles were towed to the Ilese Police Station by police officers, and the bodies of the deceased were removed and placed at the General Hospital morgue in Ijebu-Ode.

In the meantime, Corps Commander Oludare Ogunjobi, the Sector Commander, called on all drivers to prioritize safety at all times and offered condolences to the victims' families.

Ogunjobi advised drivers, especially those operating commercial vehicles, to drive with extreme caution when it's raining, to respect speed limits, to keep safe following distances, and to refrain from any actions that could put lives in danger.
