Okowa appeals for peace among PDP members
People's Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar said he is pleased to have Governor Ifeanyi Okowa as his running mate for the 2023 election.
The former vice president made the comments over the weekend in response to a special address by the governor.
In a 3-minute video, Okowa said that being on the ticket with Atiku allows him to play a role in reorienting Nigeria towards growth, peace and prosperity.
“There is probably no time in our country's history when the demand for good governance has been more compelling than the time we live in.
"The level of insecurity and the toll it is taking on peace in this country requires that we all roll up our sleeves to fight for peace to return to Nigeria," he noted.
Okowa appealed to PDP members and all "well-meaning" citizens to unite to ensure the defeat of the All Progressive Congress (APC).
In response, Atiku explained that it will take all hands on deck to get Africa's most populous nation back on track.
"And I look forward to sharing this journey with my Vice Presidential nominee, H.E. Dr Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa to compete.
"Let's come together as ONE towards a better future for all and for Nigeria," he tweeted.
In June, Atiku announced the Delta helmsman as a candidate for the VP slot, a choice some governors and party leaders are unhappy with.
