Ondo deputy governor Aiyedatiwa apologizes to Akeredolu

Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu received an apology from Deputy Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa on Thursday in an attempt to resolve the political unrest that has bedevilled Ondo State in recent months.

Aiyedatiwa acknowledged that the reports that the state has been releasing in recent weeks have been unsettling, even as she expressed sadness for the course of events in the state.

Speaking at an interactive session with state journalists, Aiyedatiwa stressed his allegiance to Akeredolu and his steadfast dedication to the advancement of the state.

In addition, the deputy governor emphasised that tensions needed to be reduced and that Sunshine State calm and tranquilly needed to be restored.

Aiyedatiwa also praised Akeredolu for his efforts to persuade the Ondo State House of Assembly members to support a political solution put out by the ruling All Progressives Congress, or APC.

He denied all of the accusations made against him, claiming they were made by people who were determined to unseat him before the 2024 gubernatorial election.

Aiyedatiwa emphasised that he has never given permission for anyone to start such campaigns and added that he has no affiliation with any organisations or people planning protests or calling for the resignation of the governor.

“Our beloved state has witnessed a series of events triggered by the health challenges faced by Mr Governor, which gave rise to misunderstandings, misconceptions, assumptions, and insinuations, and exploited by political contenders preparing for the upcoming 2024 gubernatorial election.

“It is in reference to the above that I hereby tender my unreserved apologies to Mr Governor and the good people of Ondo State, and I assure you that, together, we will both complete this journey with honour, divine guidance and in good health by the grace of God.”
