Ondo Police arrest 22-year-old for buying car with fake bank alert

Bakare Ayobami, 22, has been taken into custody by the Ondo State police for reportedly using a fictitious bank alert to purchase an automobile.

This was announced in a statement released on Wednesday in Akure by Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO).

According to Mr. Odunlami-Omisanya, on October 26, 2023, a cybercrime case involving Bakare Ayobami, a 22-year-old resident of Ode Irele in the Irele Local Government Area of Ondo State, was reported to the police.

The PPRO clarified that Mr. Ayobami had gone to a car dealership owned by Filani Oluwaseun and Ogbaguwa Oluwasola at Ikare Road, Owo, on October 20, 2023, at approximately 1800 hours, in order to purchase a 2006 Toyota Corolla for N4,650,000.00 using a fictitious bank alert.

The PPRO claims that police officers working with the Special Anti-Kidnapping Squad obtained intelligence and apprehended Ayobami Bakare and his accomplice, a 26-year-old man named Abdullahi Abubakar, in Ekiti.

“The stolen vehicle was recovered in Osogbo, Osun State, while another Toyota Camry 2014 model valued at N6.2 million suspected to have been stolen, was also recovered from the suspect.

“Other items recovered include one iPhone 12 PRO Max valued at N600,000.00k and one iPhone 14 PRO, all purchased with fake transfer,” he said.

Following an inquiry, the suspect will face charges in court, according to Mrs. Odunlami-Omisanya, who stated that the suspect had admitted to the incident.
