Ondo police rescue eight abducted church members
Only 20 hours after their abduction, the Ondo State Police Command said on Saturday that it had freed eight of the 25 victims of Friday's kidnapping.
On Friday night in the state, three thugs who were likely gunmen abducted 25 members of the Christ Apostolic Church in Oke Igan, Akure.
The victims, who were purportedly church choristers, were allegedly attacked and abducted on the Benin-Akure Motorway in the Ifon neighborhood of the state's Ose Local Government Area.
They claimed to be on their way to Ifon for a funeral ceremony when the thugs ambushed them and took them off into the wilderness.
The state police public relations officer, Mrs. Funmilayo Odunlami, commented on the development and verified that eight of the victims had been rescued, with work still being done to save the other victims.
“Good news!, eight victims rescued, effort is on to rescue others unhurtâ€, she said on a WhatsApp platform.
