Oshiomole commends former President Goodluck Jonathan, calls him a leader who led by example
Adams Oshiomhole, a former national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), lauded former president Goodluck Jonathan for the legacies he left behind while he oversaw national affairs.
Speaking at a summit on Saturday in Abuja in memory of the late Capt. Idahosa Okunbo, Oshiomhole bestowed the honour.
Jonathan, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was praised by Oshiomhole, a former governor of Edo State from the then-opposition APC, as a leader who led by example and set an example for his successors.
He mentioned some of Jonathan's accomplishments, such as admitting defeat in the 2015 presidential race and establishing almajiri schools in the country's north.
“You were who you were and I was who I was in my party but with the legacies you left behind, there is no successor that can afford to do less.
“You are an example of a leader who left something behind which has become the minimum standard now and I am sure that in 2023 that will also play out,“ he said.
Oshiomhole also commended the previous leader for founding the Almajiri schools, which were designed to remove street kids in Nigeria who were of school age.
"To reinforce that, so that no child will be left wandering the field, you appropriated additional funds in addition to the money that was available for the Universal Basic Education (UBE)."
Jonathan, according to him, had shown that Nigeria does not lack ideas, only the will to put them into action.
He thanked Jonathan for making time to pay tribute to the late Osunbo.
He prayed that people would keep remembering Jonathan's excellent deeds.
