Osun court sentences Dr Adedoyin to death over OAU student murder
Dr. Rahmon Adedoyin, the owner of the Hilton Hotel in Ile-Ife, was found guilty of murdering Timothy Adegoke, a postgraduate student at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), and was sentenced to death by hanging by Justice Adepele Ojo, the chief judge of Osun State.
Six of Adedoyin's employees—Magdalene Chiefuna, Adeniyi Aderogba, Oluwole Lawrence, Oyetunde Kazeem Adebayo Kunle, and Adedeji Adesola—were accused with him. They were the first through seventh defendants on an 18-count accusation that included allegations of murder, conspiracy, and breach of an oath of secrecy, among other things.
The other three defendants, Magdalene Chiefuna, Lawrence Oluwole, and Adedeji Adesola, were released by Justice Ojo in her ruling on Tuesday.
The charges of murder and murder conspiracy were dropped against them. They were found guilty of the charge's other charges, though.
However, Adedoyin was determined to be guilty and was subsequently found guilty of counts 1, 2, 3, 7, 9, 15, and 16.
The court determined that the second autopsy report, which had been signed by two pathologists from the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital, was invalid because "it's a report by persons with vested interest."
