Osun Governorship Election: APC gains victory at Aregebesola, Oyetola's polling unit
The All Progressives Congress won the elections at the polling stations of Osun State Governor Gboyega Oyetola, Deputy Governor Benedict Alabi and Secretary of the Interior Rauf Aregbesola.
At Oyetola's polling station at Ward 1 School in LA, Popo, Iragbiji Boripe County, APC received 545 votes to defeat its closest rival, Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party, who had 69 votes.
APC also won the Aregbesola polling station, located at Ward 8, Unit 1, Isare Ifofin, Ilesa East Local Government Area of Osun State, in Saturday's election.
The ruling party secured 164 votes while the PDP fell behind with 134 votes.
However, Aregbesola did not take part in the election.
Deputy Governor Alabi also won his electoral unit at Ward 6, Unit 7, Baptist Day School, Ikire in Irewole Local Government by 206 votes while PDP scored 184 votes.
Alabi, voting at 10:32 a.m., described the exercise as peaceful and orderly.
He commended voters' awareness and enthusiasm, adding that Nigeria is moving towards democratic progress.
“The turnout is huge and encouraging as you can see, every process is orderly and impressive. All those involved have conscientiously fulfilled their obligations.
"This is clear evidence that our democracy is maturing and that we as a party are confident of victory," he said.
Peoples' Democratic Party gubernatorial candidate Ademola Adeleke also won his constituency in the state's ongoing gubernatorial election.
He received 218 votes to defeat his main rival, Governor Gboyega Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress.
Oyetola received 23 votes while Dr. Akin Ogunbiyi from the Accord party had a vote.
