Over 85 dead in Plateau community

85 people have died as a result of the attack on Tuesday in the Plateau State villages of Fungzai and Kubwat, according to an official.

This was said by Joseph Gwankat, the national president of the Mwaghavul Development Association, to journalists on Wednesday.

After a security meeting at the residence of John Hirse, the Mishkcham Mwaghavul of Mangu, Mr. Gwankat spoke with the media.

The number of incident casualties has not yet been released by the authorities.

Mr. Gwankat noted that the impacted communities were still actively involved in the search for missing people.

He said that at the same time, suspected herdsmen assaulted multiple settlements, killing people, setting homes on fire, and destroying agriculture.

Some ladies protesting the killings surrounded the traditional ruler's palace during the gathering.

Soni Tyoden, the deputy governor of the state, along with other government representatives attended the conference.

Mr. Hirse made a plea for the deployment of troops to the areas to protect residents alongside the local government chairman and district heads from the communities.

In the meantime, 57 victims from a village in Mangu were buried on Wednesday amid sobs from loved ones and community members.

As ranchers migrate from the drier far north in search of pasture areas for their cattle, the attacks are typically economically motivated.
