Oyo kingmakers confirm Owolabi Olakunlehin as 4rd Olubadan of Ibadan
Kingmakers have approved Owolabi Olakulehin, a former federal legislator, as fit enough to succeed the throne of the Olubadan of Ibadanland.
The Otun Balogun, Abimbola Ajibola, had said Olakulehin was unfit to rule, casting doubt on the 84-year-old former military officer's health.
The Olubadan-in-council declared Olakulehin qualified to become the 43rd monarch of Ibadanland on Friday during a meeting held at the Olubadan's Oja-Oba palace.
Ten Olubadan-in-council members were present at the meeting, according to NAN, but Ajibola, who had criticised Olakulehin, was conspicuously missing.
After the meeting, Otun Olubadan and former Oyo governor Rashidi Ladoja spoke, stating that a letter will be sent to the governor asking for his approval of the council's recommendation.
“After the governor’s consent, a day for the coronation will be announced. We thank everyone for the support, as we pray that all of us will be alive to witness the coronation,” he said.
Olalekan Balogun, the 42nd Olubadan of Ibadan, passed away on March 14 at the age of 81.
The deceased's younger brother, Kola Balogun, reported that he passed away at University College Hospital (UCH) after a "slight malaria fever."
