PDP chairmanship candidate rejects Benue LG poll result

Ben Ebije, the Peoples Democratic Party's chairmanship candidate in Saturday's local government election in Benue State, has disapproved of the results announced for his Ogbadibo Local Government Area.

Ebije insisted that the election was not conducted in his local government in a statement that he made on Sunday. He also urged the Benue State Independent Electoral Commission to hold new elections.

According to The PUNCH, the BSIEC Chairman, Richard Tombowua, on Sunday, declared that the ruling All Progressives Congress won all 23 chairmanship and 276 councillorship positions in the state.

Speaking to the media on Sunday in Otukpa, the Ogbadibo LGA headquarters, Ebije said that although voters came out early to execute their civic obligations, they were left waiting in vain because all polling places lacked election materials and electoral officials.

“He expressed disappointment after visiting all 13 council wards, where he had campaigned vigorously and felt confident of victory based on the strong turnout of voters.

“He called on the Benue State Government and the Benue State Independent Electoral Commission to adequately prepare and reschedule the election.

“Ebije emphasised that any results announced for Ogbadibo would be rejected and legally challenged,” the statement read.
