Peter Obi meets Dele Farotimi after his release from prison
The Labour Party's 2023 presidential contender, Peter Obi, paid Dele Farotimi a visit at his home in Lagos.
The former governor of Anambra state stated in a post via X on Thursday that he will be seeing Farotimi for the first time following his release from the Ekiti state penitentiary facility. As a spokeswoman for his 2023 presidential campaign, Obi called Farotimi a symbol of bravery.
“Yesterday, following my visit and meeting with President Obasanjo, I made time to visit my dear younger brother, Dele Farotimi,” Obi wrote.
“Since his return from the correctional center in Ekiti, I have not had the opportunity to meet with him.
“I was pleased to find him in good spirits and deeply encouraged by his unwavering dedication to the struggle for a better Nigeria.”
Due to allegations of defamation, Farotimi was placed under 21 days of remand by the Ekiti State magistrate court in Ado-Ekiti.
In his book "Nigeria and its Criminal Justice System," he was charged by the police with "criminally defaming" Afe Babalola, a senior advocate of Nigeria (SAN).
