Police apprehend five suspected bandits in Kebbi, recover cash, weapons

During a nighttime operation along the Zuru–Tadurga road, the Kebbi State Police Command apprehended five suspected bandits in Zuru and found a sizable cache of weapons and more over ?2.6 million in cash.

Around one in the morning on Sunday, members of the No. 36 Police Mobile Force Squadron, which was assigned to Operation Restore Peace, apprehended the accused.

This was revealed in a statement that CSP Nafiu Abubakar Kotarkoshi, the Police Public Relations Officer, signed and made public on Sunday.

According to Kotarkoshi, the suspects, who are all from Zamfara State's Bukkuyum and Gummi Local Government Areas, are thought to be involved in recent attacks in some areas of the Zuru Emirate.

According to Kotarkoshi, the suspects, who are all from Zamfara State's Bukkuyum and Gummi Local Government Areas, are thought to be involved in recent attacks in some areas of the Zuru Emirate.

The statement claims that a search of the suspects turned up seven fake AK-47 rifles, one locally manufactured handgun, three Dane guns, three AK-47 magazines, 43 rounds of 7.62×39mm ammunition, 46 cartridges, two empty shells, and ?2,623,900 in cash.

Kotarkoshi revealed that the case had been moved to the State Criminal Investigation Department for additional investigation with the goal of dissecting the suspects' network and apprehending additional gang members.

The arrest takes place in the context of increased bandit activity in Zuru and other communities, which have seen many invasions by armed groups operating between Kebbi, Zamfara, and Niger States in recent years.

Criminal elements ousted by military operations in neighboring states have found refuge in the challenging terrain surrounding Sakaba, Danko-Wasagu, and Fakai LGAs.

In an effort to stop kidnappings, cattle rustling, and highway attacks, security services have stepped up operations throughout the region. As part of Operation Restore Peace, police conduct regular patrols and targeted ambushes.
