Police arraign four for theft in Lagos

Four guys have been charged by the Lagos State Police Command with stealing money and phone handsets.

The suspects were also charged with assaulting a police officer, which is a crime that puts the public's peace at risk.

Abiodun Akinola, Abdullahi Jimoh, Olalekan Eyiomo, and Omomuzo Arume, the defendants, were charged with eight counts of conspiracy, theft, and assault on Monday in a Yaba Magistrates' Court before Magistrate P. E. Nwaka.

The property of one Ogadimma Oluwabukola, one Anosike Henry, one Samsung A03 worth N120,000, and one iPhone 11 worth N250,000 were all allegedly taken by the defendants.

Thomas Nurudeen, the prosecutor, informed the court that the offences violated Section 280 and were subject to punishment under Articles 411, 232, 328, 117(1)(2), and 287 of the Lagos State Criminal Code of Nigeria from 2015.

The charges read in part, “That you, Abiodun Akinola, Abdullahi Jimoh, Olalekan Eyiomo, Omomuzo Arume, and others still at large on March 24, 2023, around 8 am at Ijora Badia, Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District did conspire among yourselves to commit felony to wit: stealing, thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 411 the Criminal Law of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2015.”

The defendants, however, entered a not-guilty plea to the accusations.

They were given bail by the magistrate, Nwaka, in the amount of N300,000 apiece with two sureties in the same amount.

Trial in the case was postponed until May 5, 2023.
