Police arrest 22-year-old suspected kidnapper in Jigawa
Mohammed Moda, age 22, of Burtu village in Ringim Local Government Area has been taken into custody by Jigawa State police on suspicion of threatening to kidnap two people. This was said by DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam, the command's spokeswoman.
“On 11/06/2024 at about 1600hrs, Yakubu Bala of Larabar Zango Village, Ajingi LGA, Kano State, reported at Ringim Police Station that unknown persons were threatening him, demanding a sum of two million naira (N2,000,000.00) in cash or else his wife would be kidnapped. They provided a POS account located in Ringim town for the transaction,” he said.
Adam went on to say that the complainant had deposited N900,000.00, or nine hundred thousand naira.
“Upon receipt of the report, detectives from Ringim Division promptly acted on credible intelligence, stormed the POS shop, and arrested Mohammed Moda of Burtu village, Ringim, who came to withdraw the ransom,” Adam stated.
He continued by saying that the police found seven hundred and ninety-two thousand naira (N792,000.00) on the suspect during a search.
"During interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime and implicated one Bashari Beto as his accomplice," the police official said.
Adam continued by stating that a court lawsuit will be filed and that the case is being investigated.
