Police arrest company drivers, two other workers over kidnap of Fouani

Three employees of the Lebanese-owned Fouani Company, a representative of LG, and Hissence Products have been detained by Lagos police on suspicion of being involved in the abduction of four Lebanese nationals who were being taken hostage last month while sailing from Apapa to Victoria Island in Lagos.

According to police sources, one of the company's drivers and other employees were among those detained after detectives thoroughly investigated the situation after the victims were rescued by the Marine police in the Orogbo Iddo region of the state with assistance from the Nigerian navy.

After the kidnapping, there were some initial hiccups as families, the Lebanese community, and their close associates refused to allow police to become involved in the search for the victims. However, detectives attached to Commissioner of Police Adegoke Fayoade's special squad sprang into action, it was learned.

Before releasing the captives and taking them to their house on Banana Island, sources said that the kidnappers had received ransom payments totaling about $1.5 million.

Later, word spread that the Commissioner of Police ordered his troops to apprehend the abductors who were running away, and the investigators' work paid off when it was discovered that the operation was carried out with the cooperation of corporate insiders.

According to Vanguard, the detained suspects had disclosed to investigators every action they had taken in the past, both inside and outside the business.
