Four persons using toy guns while wearing uniforms from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have been apprehended by the Abia State Police Command.
According to the Command, the arrests took place on Tuesday as a result of reliable information that the Central Police Station, Umuahia, received. The information stated that a group of four men dressed in EFCC uniforms had entered Enyioma Christ Lodge, Umudike, taken some students' phones at gunpoint, and demanded that they deposit N120,000 into their bank accounts.
According to a press release signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, ASP Maureen Chinaka, officers from Central Police Station (CPS) Umuahia began an investigation after receiving the information, visited the crime scene, and took three men from the Man O' War base into custody: 25-year-old Onyedikachi Ihechukwumere (also known as "M"), 26-year-old Onwuka Christopher (also known as "M"), and 30-year-old Tochukwu Obinna (also known as "M").
According to the press statement, three of the six stolen phones and a tricycle with the REG No. HAF 011VG FLEET NO 5868—which was utilised to help carry out the illegal act—were found among the goods that were taken from the suspects.
