Police arrest kidnapper who killed Nabeeha in Kaduna
Bello Mohammed, 28, of Zamfara State, has been apprehended by Nigeria Police Force operations in Kaduna. Mohammed is suspected of killing Nabeeha, one of the six Al-Kadriyar sisters who were kidnapped from Bwari, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja on January 2, 2024.
According to ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, a spokesman for the force, Bello was detained when the divisional police officer of Tafa Division, acting on intelligence, searched a hotel in the Tafa region of Kaduna. Bello was found in possession of N2.25 million, which was likely the profits of ransom money gathered from abducted victims in the area.
According to Adejobi, the suspect admitted during questioning that he was a member of the group that executed some kidnapped victims, including Nabeeha, on January 13, 2024, in a kidnappers' camp in Kaduna State. The gang also abducted the family members of a Barrister Ariyo in Bwari, Federal Capital Territory, on January 2, 2024.
“The suspect, in a dramatic situation, offered N1,000,000 to induce the DPO, who rejected the offer and carried out his duty diligently,†Adejobi stated.
The suspect, who also admitted to being involved with the five bandits that the IRT, led by Mai Gemu (also known as Godara), had already neutralised in Kaduna and whose deadly camp had also been destroyed, has been handed over to the DFI-IRT in Abuja for covert investigations into the matter and the arrest of all other perpetrators of the heinous act. This is according to Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun's order.
Presently, the suspect is assisting the police with their inquiries.
The IGP gave an assurance that the police would not spare any effort in eliminating criminals and leaving behind a safer society for all Nigerians, even as he praised SP Idris Ibrahim, the Tafa DPO, for his dedication and professionalism in handling the case.
