Police arrest man for stealing laptop at Lagos airport
The Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) Aviation Security (AVSEC) has detained a passenger named Ogeneochuko David at the Lagos airport for allegedly stealing another passenger's laptop from his bag in the overhead compartment during the boarding of Ibom Air flight Q1300 to Abuja.
According to media accounts, the owner of the laptop had noticed David moving around the plane and decided to check where his laptop was kept. When he did, he saw it was missing and alerted the crew.
After the alarm, a search was conducted right away, which caused a delay of around 30 minutes until David and the laptop were discovered.
He was promptly unloaded and given to the AVSEC, who subsequently gave him to the Police to conduct additional inquiry.
According to the airline, “The police have since confirmed that the suspect is a member of a large syndicate specialising in stealing onboard aircraft.
“The owner of the laptop voluntarily stepped down from the flight to assist with the investigation and promised to follow up with the case to its logical conclusion.
“In line with our corporate policy, Ibom Air has zero tolerance for this sort of criminal activity on board our flights and will prosecute any offenders to the full extent of the law.â€
