Police arrest notorious Okada robber in Lagos

Yusuf Lammeed, a known Okada robber who prefers to target unwitting bystanders around the State in the early morning hours, has been apprehended by members of the Lagos State Taskforce.

The suspect, who was with two other people who are presently on the run, was apprehended by Taskforce members when they attempted to rob a woman who was waiting for a bus at the Ikeja Along bus stop at around 5:30 am on Friday.

The woman, who yelled for help when the suspects approached her, alerted the officers on patrol along that axis, causing a hot pursuit that ended when one of the suspects fell from the bike and was apprehended, according to a release by Gbade Abdulraheem, Director, Press and Public Affairs of Taskforce.

At the Taskforce headquarters in Bolade, Oshodi, the suspect confessed to the crime and disclosed that he and his other gang members, Tribunal and Abbey of Mushin, have been involved in the enterprise for more than six months.

He revealed that despite the operations of Okada in the State being banned, they continued to carry out operations periodically to steal phones and sell them to their dealers in Mushin, who are known by the nicknames Segun Scatter, Steven Memory, Kalimantan, and Ejo.

The Agency's Chairman, CSP Shola Jejeloye, commented on the arrest by saying that the Agency would continue to do everything in its ability to make crime unprofitable for anyone still participating in it.

“Crime is not a career. We have made several efforts in the past and will intensify the efforts to ensure criminal elements in the State either flee from here or turn over a new leaf. We will be all out in 2023 to achieve our mandate of zero tolerance to criminality in the State,” he said.

Miscreants, traffic offenders, environmental offenders, auto thieves, burglars, pickpockets, and one-chance operators, among others, were admonished by Jejeloye to think again this year or they would only have themselves to blame in the end.

He urged locals to inform the Agency or the nearest police Station of any illicit activity they may have witnessed.

Jejeloye assured the people of Lagos that a crack team had been dispatched to find the other gang members who had escaped the site of the arrest and to capture the people who had purchased their loot.

“The suspect arrested will be charged to court accordingly,” he said.
