Police arrest Rivers man for defiling house help

According to the Rivers State Police Command, its agents have detained a 42-year-old man who goes by the name Kolawale for allegedly defiling his 13-year-old female housekeeper at Eneka's Ejekwu Street in the state's Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.

According to reports, the suspect, a father of three, was apprehended by the state police's human rights unit on Monday as a result of a complaint from worried neighbours who the teenage girl reportedly rushed to after the suspect allegedly defiled her.

According to a source who wished to remain anonymous, Kolawale works on oil rigs and has been having affairs with the girl whenever he is in town, keeping his wife in the dark.

The source stated, “The man is married with three children and the girl has been staying with them. He is a rig worker and not usually around. He comes on break and goes back to work where he spends weeks

“Whenever he is in town and when his wife is not around, he usually has his way with his house help who is 13 years old. The girl has been staying with them for some months.

“I think the girl has been tired of the whole thing but didn’t know how to escape or avoid him. So, this time around, when he returned from work, he wanted to sleep with her, but the girl refused.

“She resisted him, ran out of the compound and informed some residents of what she had been going through. So the women amongst them took her in for a check and confirmed that there had been penetration in her private part.”

He added that the women took the girl to the state Ministry of Justice where they filed a formal complaint because they were outraged by the discovery and appalled at the extent of the damage caused by the repeated penetration of the youngster.

“So, it was actually the Ministry of Justice that now reported to the human rights desk at the police headquarters at Moscow Road. After receiving the report, the police have been monitoring the man since he was not steady.

“On receiving information that he came back on Sunday, they (police) moved in and arrested him on Monday morning,” the source disclosed

Additionally, it was learned that the teenager's private area had been invaded, according to the results of a medical checkup.

When reached, Grace Iringe-Koko, a spokeswoman for the state police command, verified the event and the man's arrest, adding that an investigation was still going on.
