Police arrest suspected kidnapper after collecting ransom in Yobe
The Yobe State Police Command has declared that Usmanu Garba, 30, a possible member of a criminal gang, has been taken into custody.
This was revealed in a statement by DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, the Command's spokesperson.
“On July 5, 2024, at about 1300 hours, detectives from the State Intelligence Department (SID) arrested Usmanu Garba of Katarko village, Gujba LGA, while he was on his way to spend his share of the proceeds from a kidnap operation.
“The suspect is a member of a gang that specializes in armed robbery, kidnapping, and rustling in Gujba LGA and neighbouring towns.
“The gang was responsible for the recent kidnapping incident in Babaram Muktum, a Fulani settlement in Gujba LGA, where they kidnapped a resident and collected a ransom of N1.6 million.
“They also robbed the victim’s father of his Techno phone,” Abdulkarim stated.
He continued by saying that more syndicate members were evading capture and that the Command was stepping up its attempts to catch them.
