Police arrest ten suspects over death of FUOYE student
In connection with the death of Modupe Deborah Atanda, a Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) nursing student enrolled in the 200-level, the police in Ekiti State have detained ten suspects.
Atanda was initially reported missing before being discovered dead. A few yards from the school, her lifeless body was discovered in a little grave. Sunday Abutu, a spokesperson for the Ekiti State Police Command, confirmed the development and urged the public to maintain their composure, assuring them that those responsible for the heinous act would face the full force of the law.
“While appealing for calm, the commissioner said the Command would do everything possible to unearth the identity of perpetrators and bring them to book.
“The Command enjoins anyone with useful information concerning the ugly incident to visit Oye Divisional Police Headquarters, Oye-Ekiti, or State Criminal and Investigation Department (SCID), or call 09064050086/08053499199,†he added. Â
Additionally, yesterday's statement from Mufutau Ibrahim, the university's registrar, revealed that Atanda's body had been found. Students have been told to leave campus immediately by management in order to avert a collapse of law and order.
The statement read in part; “It would be recalled that earlier today, the management had made public the disturbing news of Atanda missing, and assured that investigation was ongoing to unravel the whereabouts of the poor student.
“But current information reaching the security outfit of the university has revealed that the said student is dead. Â
“While the management condoles with the deceased family and generality of the university community, particularly our dear students, we reiterate that investigation is still ongoing and it’s being done in collaboration with national security agencies to get to the root of the sad development and bring culprits to book.Â
“To this end, all students (Stream A and any other full-time student still on any of the school campuses) are hereby directed to leave with immediate effect to ensure a proper, holistic and unimpeded thorough investigation.
