Police arrest three kidnappers while collecting N10 million in Lagos
A businessman named Timothy Uche was kidnapped on March 18, 2023, in the Ejigbo neighbourhood of Lagos by a four-person armed gang, one of which was dressed as a pregnant woman. The incident was reported in the Saturday Vanguard.
His captors agreed to collect a N15 million ransom after three days of imprisonment instead of the N75 million they had initially sought.
Crime Guard has reliable information that Uche's kidnappers took N5 million from his family when it became clear that they couldn't raise N15 million. However, they made him swear an oath promising to repay the remaining N10 million after his release.
On Tuesday, March 14, 2023, the kidnappers told Uche that they would return for the remaining ransom and threatened to obliterate his family if he tried to outwit them. This was done with blatant arrogance.
Uche's wife had just finished attending to the bruises he had sustained while in the kidnappers' den when the kidnappers called and demanded the remaining N10 million.
The deadline for payment was May 6, 2023, and they stipulated that the money had to be paid in cash and US dollars.
The pickup location was in the Lagos neighbourhood of Ikotun. Three of them arrived on a motorbike and were successful in obtaining from the businessman's wife the money that was starched in a bag.
Then, out of nowhere, a car struck their running motorbike and sped off, knocking them all to the ground. Additionally, the bag containing the dollar bills was thrown open, exposing wads of cash.
Armed police officers from the State Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department, SCIID, Yaba, then took them into custody.
