Police arrest VeryDarkMan after honouring invitation
Martins Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan, is a controversial social critic who was arrested by the Nigeria Police Force on Thursday night.
VDM's lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, stated that he was arrested after accepting a police invitation, even though the nature of his offence was unknown at the time this story was filed.
Adeyanju revealed that his client had accepted a similar invitation on Wednesday in a post on X on Thursday.
His post read, “Our client, VDM, has been detained after honouring a police invitation just like yesterday. VDM has been consistent in stating that the Nigerian Police are our friends, even when we all know they are not.”
Calls to Muyiwa Adejobi's line were not answered, thus attempts to get a response from the Force Spokesperson were unsuccessful.
When VDM used its uniform in one of his most recent films, the police denounced it and ordered an investigation to find out where the clothing came from.
VeryDarkMan humorously identified himself as a “Chief Superintendent of Police of the Online Division” while sporting a police uniform in the video.
He apologised in a video released on Thursday for wearing clothing that resembled the official police uniform in response to the criticism that followed his conduct.
In order to prevent miscommunications or legal issues, VeryDarkMan also suggested that Nigerians obtain the appropriate authorisation before donning police uniforms.
