Police arrest woman for child maltreatment in Lagos
Following the discovery of a video on the internet showing Funmi Faith, 32, abusing a female kid, the Lagos State Police Command has taken her into custody.
This was verified in a statement released on Wednesday by SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the public relations officer for the state police.
An X.com user had posted the video before she was arrested, pleading for assistance in saving a girl who was being abused.
A voice in the video called for assistance from the Lagos State Government, denouncing the treatment as "dehumanising." "Mommy Mariam, this is bad," the voice continued. It diminishes human dignity. This is not how you should treat this girl.
“I am giving the Lagos State Government this video, this is dehumanising.”
According to Hundeyin, Faith was taken into custody on Tuesday by Oke-odo Division officials. The Lagos State Ministry of Youth and Social Development has been tasked with providing the youngster with appropriate care and housing.
The statement said, “The woman captured in a now-viral video maltreating a female child, 32-year-old Funmi Faith, has been arrested.
“She was arrested by police officers from the Oke-odo Division yesterday, Tuesday, June 4, 2024.
“Meanwhile, the child has been handed over to the Lagos State Ministry of Youth and Social Development for proper care and shelter.”
