Police ban 'protest of any form' in Nasarawa
A protest in the state of Nasarawa is prohibited in "any form," and anyone found doing so would be detained and prosecuted, according to the state police command.
“The Nasarawa State Police Command wishes to inform the general public that all forms of protest have been banned throughout the state,†Nasarawa police spokesperson, Ramhan Nansel, said in a statement on Sunday. “Therefore, all proposed protests under any guise are hereby prohibited.â€
The police said the ban on protest is to forestall the breakdown of law and order in the state, adding that “parents and guardians are advised to ensure their children and wards do not violate this order as anyone caught shall be arrested and prosecuted accordingly.â€
With Abdullahi Sule of the All Progressives Congress (APC) crowned the victor of the March 18 governorship election, PDP supporters led post-election protests that shook the state last week.
The rise of Mr. Sule is being contested by numerous bare-chested ladies who have taken to the streets.
