Police detain five for allegedly instigating violence in Kano
Five people have been detained by the Kano police command for allegedly inciting violence and causing a disturbance while commemorating the ruling of the Supreme Court over the state governorship election.
Gumel said that while celebrating their party's triumph at the highest court, some New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and All Progressives Congress (APC) members got into a fight in Gaya Local Government Area (LGA).
“We have since arrested five suspects, and we also have two victims on admission at General Hospital Gaya,†he said.
After an investigation, he said, the individuals would face charges in court.
Political players in the state were forewarned by Gumel not to engage in acts of violence or that could incite violence. of order to prevent a breakdown of law and order, he stated that the police, along with other security agencies, had stepped up security at every location in the state.
“At this moment, security has been beefed up in strategic locations to maintain peace.
“I hereby call on leaders of all political parties to prevail on their supporters to shun unguarded utterances that may trigger violence.
“We are therefore advising them to celebrate moderately without infringing on the fundamental rights of other members of the public.
“Anyone or groups that try to disrupt the peace and cause a breakdown of law and order will face the full wrath of the law,†he said.
Gumel reassured the public that the police would do everything in their power to keep them safe while allowing them to carry out their lawful business.
