Police detain NIS officer caught with numerous firearms in Abuja

A member of the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) was detained by police officers from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command in possession of a variety of firearms and ammunition.

The suspect, who has not yet been identified, was captured Monday afternoon in the state's Zuma region.

It was discovered that the officer was suspected of perhaps dealing in weapons with criminals since he was unable to provide a plausible explanation for how he obtained the weapons and where he was brought.

Sources claim that an intelligence report regarding a missing person prompted his detention. It was discovered that he had been found in possession of both handguns and rifles.

“We recovered four AK-47 magazines; four magazines of CZ Scorpion rifle; two CZ Scorpion rifles, 139mm ammunition and two Diakon and CZ pistols,” said a source.

Olatunji Disu, the FCT Commissioner of Police (CP), attested to the suspect's arrest. He stated that the suspect was being questioned and that more information would be released at a later time.
