Police detain singer Portable

Police have detained well-known street performer Habeeb Okikiola, better known by his stage name Portable, on suspicion of not making the final payment on a G-Wagon he bought from an auto dealer.

According to Channels Television, Benjamin Hundeyin, the state police spokesman, the singer was taken into custody on Tuesday in the Abule Egba neighbourhood of Lagos.

The crooner "Zazoo Zeh" allegedly paid just ?13 million for the car, despite it being valued at ?27 million. In a widely shared video, Portable was seen climbing a barrier when police came up to him carrying an arrest warrant so they could pursue them.

However, a different widely shared video showed him being wheelbarried, shackled, and hauled by roughly four police officers into a waiting car.

A woman's voice, identifying herself as the auto dealer, could be heard screaming in the background during the ensuing brawl.

She described how Portable had threatened her when she had asked that he pay off the loan.

According to a police spokeswoman, Hundeyin, the singer's attorneys are expected to appear on Wednesday morning. According to him, the artist might face legal action based on his conversations with his attorneys.

The singer has dealt with the police before. The "Zazoo Zeh" crooner was taken into custody by the Ogun State police in April 2023, and he was charged with five counts of alleged assault and theft at the Ifo Magistrate Court in the Ifo Local Government Area of Ogun State.

After fulfilling his bail requirements, he was freed from the Ilaro Correctional Centre after being placed on remand.
