Police dismiss officers who demanded money from Dutch tourist in Oyo

Two special police constables in Oyo state, Kareem Fatai and Jimoh Abdul-Lukman, were fired by the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) for extorting money from a Dutch visitor.

Two constables were detained by the Oyo police command on December 8 following the viral video of them extorting money from the foreign rider.

The state commissioner of police, Adebola Hamzat, made the announcement of the officers' termination on Thursday.

According to Hamzat, their firing was required to stop other police officers from acting in a similar manner.

“I affirm the recommended punishment of dismissal for the two police special constabularies, Kareem Fatai and Jimoh Abdul-Lukman,” the commissioner said.

“I hereby pronounce both of them dismissed from the police special constabulary. They will cease to be members of the special constabulary with immediate effect.

“It is hoped that this will serve as a deterrent to others who might want to perform a similar act.”
