At the Lagos House in Ikeja, pensioners from the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP) and the Contributory Pension Scheme organized a protest to demand the implementation of approved pay awards and pension increases.

Additionally, the retirees demanded that the Lagos State Government reimburse them for unpaid pension arrears and other benefits.

In order to make their requests and ask the government to intervene in matters that affected their welfare, the demonstrators assembled at the government building.

However, some of the seniors were reportedly forced to leave the demonstration after police officers used tear gas on them.

As the pensioners demanded payment of their benefits and voiced their displeasure about the use of force against them, the situation became more tense.

The pensioners insisted that the implementation of pension-related hikes, payment of unpaid arrears, and other benefits owed to them were the key points of contention.
