Police handling of Lagos Lekki bridge crash sparks outrage
Three young people were killed in a deadly automobile crash at the Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge toll gate in Lagos, and the police's handling of the event has sparked outrage.
The collision happened on Monday at around 1:00 am and involved two cars that were transporting about eight individuals.
A social media user, Dr Love #Drweloveu, who shared details of the incident on Monday via X, said, “18-year-old driver killed 3 of his friends in accident. Police arrested the remaining 2 survivors. The driver was about 18 years old and without a driver’s licence.”
The crash had immediate and tragic consequences.
“Two died on the spot, and one passed away a few minutes after being pulled from the wrecked car,” Dr Love reported.
According to him, both drivers emerged unscathed from the wreckage.
He said, “The two drivers from both cars came out unharmed, no scratch on their body. They came out hale and hearty, while their friends lay dead.”
Onlookers, however, took issue with the accident's aftermath and the way the responding police handled the matter.
