Police nab notorious suspected armed robber, cultist in Ogun

Residents of the Abeokuta neighbourhoods of Olomore, Soyoye, and Ogun radio have breathed a sigh of relief following the capture of a member of the Eiye Confraternity cult and a four-man armed robbery gang that had been terrorizing the neighbourhood.

According to information obtained by The Guardian, the group specialized in armed robberies, breaking into homes, and robbing unsuspecting road users of their possessions.

According to a police source, the suspect, Damilare Olamilekan, 30, was apprehended by the Lafenwa Police Division under the direction of Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Kayode Shedrack on Saturday, June 10, 2023, following a number of unsuccessful attempts and with the assistance of a tracking device and relying on prior forensic evidence.

Olamilekan revealed after a thorough investigation that he and his fellow gang members, who are apparently still at large, were responsible for horrifying atrocities in the Olomore, Soyoye, and Ogun radio regions of Abeokuta.

He claimed that they have cutlasses, knives, and stones that they use to intimidate their victims, terrifying them into an adrenal frenzy and nervous collapse, then taking their possessions, including money, phones, laptops, and automated teller machines (ATMs).

According to Superintendent of Police (SP), Omolola Odutola, who confirmed the arrest yesterday, the suspect has given confessional admissions incriminating the other three members of the armed robbery group, who are currently on the run.

She claims that the suspect acknowledged being a current member of the Eiye Confraternity and directed the DPO to where their gang's operational weapons were stashed in the WAPCO neighbourhood of Abeokuta; these weapons have since been collected and taken to the police station.

The recoveries of stolen objects discovered in his possession during a search of his home have been designated as exhibits and returned to the police station, she emphasized, while the preliminary investigation is still ongoing.

Residents were reassured by Omolara that the state's police chief, Olanrewaju Yomi Oladimeji, had zero tolerance for cultism and armed robbery.
